Community

Fits 

Community Fits, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to positively impacting the lives of youth. We are committed to empowering youth through creative outlets, particularly in the realm of fashion and textile arts. By offering skill-building opportunities, our programs enable young individuals to explore their creativity, learn valuable fashion-related skills, and open doors to new opportunities. Additionally, we emphasize overall wellness and emotional intelligence, approaching programs from a trauma-informed lens. Our organization is rooted in evidence-based practices, leveraging research and best practices to inform our programs and interventions. We hope to invoke community healing and foster a supportive community for youth to thrive.

Friday, 08/09 – Machine Up-Cycling Basics (Pants)

5:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Learn sewing machine basics and up-cycling/mending techniques. Bring your own pants to work on at the end of class.

 

Saturday, 08/10 – Sustainable Machine Quilting Basics

5:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Make a 4-square mini quilt using eco-friendly materials. Learn how to layer, piece, add bias tape, and stitch it all together.

 

Thursday, 08/15 – Satin & Sew (Bonnet)

6:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Learn to sew a custom satin bonnet to protect your hair. All materials provided.

 

Wednesday, 08/28 – Upcycle: Graphic Tee to Tote

6:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Turn your graphic t-shirt into a custom tote bag using simple sewing techniques. Perfect for beginners. Bring your own shirt. BYOB is welcome.

 

Thursday, 08/29 – Japanese Knot Bag

6:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Sew a small and functional Japanese knot bag from start to finish. Some experience is helpful but not required. All supplies included. BYOB is welcome.

 

Friday, 08/30 – Hand Mending: Sashiko Inspired

5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Learn practical hand sewing skills inspired by Sashiko, including fixing holes, hemming, and attaching buttons. All supplies included. BYOB is welcome.
